God also said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’: This is my name forever, and this my title for all generations.

Exodus 3:15

Recommit Ourselves to the Call

Knowing God and declaring one’s faith mark crucial stages in the journey of faith. However, following such an encounter, individuals often undergo a profound and often painful self-awareness. Take the example of Moses, tending his father-in-law’s sheep in a distant wilderness, when he unexpectedly encounters a God who commissions him for a mission of liberation. Amid his numerous objections, he pleads, “Tell me your name,” seeking to understand the deity guiding him. Simultaneously, he grapples with a growing awareness of his own inadequacy in the face of this divine calling, repeatedly questioning, “Who am I?” Our evolving understanding of both God and ourselves is integral to this journey. We realize that shouldering the world’s burdens, especially when we often falter, is a daunting task. However, we recognize that we are just starting, whether anew or for the first time, and we recommit ourselves to the call of becoming disciples.
