Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually.

Psalm 105:4

A Thought to Ponder

It’s beautifully evident that God extends a helping hand, a comforting message we’ve encountered in our recent readings. Yet, it’s also gentle to acknowledge that how God provides for our needs can be pretty unique and occasionally puzzling. Whether it’s the daily appearance of manna and quail in the wilderness or the surprisingly generous, if somewhat unconventional, rewards for our efforts, God’s ways invite us to pause and ponder.

As we immerse ourselves in these stories and reflect on our own lives, we begin to discern that God collaborates with us to meet our needs. It requires our effort—collecting the manna each morning and capturing the quail at night. Our toil in the vineyard becomes a meaningful part of our covenant with God, a testament to our belonging to the divine kin-dom. We are not merely passive recipients of God’s grace; we actively engage in the journey of discovery and acceptance. God provides, we gather, and together we share.

While Labor Day may have passed, we can still celebrate the ongoing efforts of our church community to gather and distribute God’s blessings among ourselves and the wider world. Let us take a moment to appreciate the “manna ministries” that brighten our week as we come together in worship.
