Come unto me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Seeking True Rest

Rest, that’s the dream right now, isn’t it? Not just sleep, although a good night’s sleep sounds pretty tempting too. With everything we’ve been through lately, all the ups and downs of living in this crazy world, and the everyday worries and stresses that make it hard to truly unwind, sleep is definitely a welcomed thought. But do we really think that Jesus was inviting us to come over and crash on His couch for a nap? His words in Matthew 11:28 go, “Come unto me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” It’s more than just tucking yourself under a cozy blanket and drifting off, especially when you consider what He says next: “Take my yoke” (Matthew 11:29).
