And God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”

Genesis 1:6

Metaphors of Faith

Trinity Sunday reminds us that while it centers on God, it inevitably involves us too because our knowledge of God is intertwined with our relationships. We acknowledge the God we worship and the gratitude we owe, yet we grasp God through how God engages with us, both individually and collectively. Our understanding of God emanates from our connections with one another, forged through communal living and worship. Realizing that our finite minds cannot fathom the entirety of God, we recognize that everything we know about God is a mere metaphor. This Trinity Sunday, we honor a God who isn’t distant, but rather, one who manifested in creation through a spoken word and ignited a divine mission within our hearts.
